Updated August 18, 2013

Summer is winding down, and so are the FREE CONCERTS. Many of the summer programs have already ended, but there are a few left!

Here is a preview of what is coming up soon:
  • Central Park Summerstage hosts Comedy Central (August 18th) and Bobby McFarren (August 20th).
  • The annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival will have events around town leading up to the main events at Marcus Garvey Park on Friday evening (August 23rd) and Saturday (August 24th), and at Tompkins Square Park on Sunday (August 25th). A major summer highlight for jazz fans!
  • Don't forget one of my favorite end-of-summer events, the great Blues BBQ on August 24th, bringing great music (including Tracy Nelson and the Heritage Blues Orchestra) to Hudson River Park along with great food and cool breezes!
  • The Brooklyn Concerts at Coney Island will wrap up their 35th season with Chicago on August 21st, while the Martin Luther King, Jr. shows at Wingate Field will close out their season with Gladys Knight and the O'Jays on August 19th.
  • Shakespeare in the Park closes with Love's Labour's Lost on August 18th.
  • Long Islanders won't be left out. The Town of Hempstead still has some shows left, Nassau County will keep the summer alive with a schedule that includes the Five Satins and Frankie Lymon's Teenagers on August 23rd, David Cassidy on September 7th,Eddie Money on September 28th and a big "Strong Island" show featuring Gloria Gaynor on October 19th.
  • And what else? The Lackawanna Music Festival in Hoboken on August 18th, the AfroPunk Fest at Commodore Perry Park on August 24th and 25th and House of Vans finishes on August 29th.
  • River to River has already come to a close, as has Celebrate Brooklyn, Madison Square Park , BAM R & B, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, and just about everything else. But they will be back next year!
